Why pay someone to do something you can do?

Written by: Larry Larson - CEO of RMC Solutions

My father took great pride in that statement. He was a Jack-of-all-trades, and was even a master of some. He quit school after 8th grade to work on the family dairy farm. As a 21 year old, he married my mother on her 18th birthday. He worked for a cabinet manufacturer until he started his own business as a custom cabinet-maker. He bought his parents dairy farm when I was about 8 yrs old. While farming, he sold and serviced RV’s as a complement to our family campground business. In his spare time, he built two of his own homes. He was capable in all the construction trades, including plumbing, electric and HVAC. He could arc-weld when necessary, and was a veterinarian when he needed to be. Later in life, he took a job as head of maintenance at a medical facility that was doing some extensive expansion. My father’s name was actually Merlin, and at times he seemed to be a wizard.

My father seemed to have all the time in the world to figure out how to do things himself. Other than the cabinets he built for customers, the projects were for himself. He was free to just get it done, even if it wasn’t pretty. He had no inspectors checking his work. He had no risk of a lawsuit if his work was imperfect. There were no construction defect laws for him to be concerned about. If a friend was helping on a house project, and got injured, the friend took care of himself. Workers Comp? That was for city folk. My father rarely kept any accounting records because he paid cash for everything. My mother was bookkeeper mainly to help them keep a strict budget in order to feed 5 kids. I am very proud of my father. His legacy of character, integrity, and work ethic lives on in the lives of his children and the generations that follow.

Today, we can’t do it all! We can let our pride get in the way, and convince ourselves we are getting the job done, but we are just not qualified to handle everything. Our world is moving too fast to have time to figure it all out. Complex issues are commonplace and Jack-of-all-trades is now Jack the specialist.

RMC Solutions is your full service insurance tracking specialist. Sure, you may have your own staff handling the very critical process of evaluating the insurance of your vendors and tenants, just like my father gave antibiotic shots to our cattle, but my father knew when it was time to call the veterinarian to save the family business asset. It’s time for you to call RMC Solutions and let us handle the critical process of protecting your business from claims that should be subrogated to vendors. You are doing your best, but insurance is a complex animal, and like my father’s vet, we are here to help protect your business assets.
